DOM Mentorship Incubator

Launching Fall 2025

The DOM Mentorship Incubator is a new initiative designed to support incoming faculty during their critical first year. Launching after New Faculty Orientation, this program offers targeted, structured mentorship to help new hires thrive from day one.

Mentor Program

What to Expect:

  • Mentorship Committees: Each faculty member is assigned a small committee of mentors to provide well-rounded support.

  • Structured Curriculum: Quarterly sessions covering specialty-agnostic topics like setting goals, navigating UCSF, and growing as a clinician, educator, and scholar.

  • Peer Cohort: A built-in support network of fellow new hires to foster connection and community.

  • 1-on-1 Coaching: An initial session to help faculty set SMART goals and plan their first year with intention.

  • Matrix Mentorship Model: Designed to complement – not duplicate – existing mentorship in each division.

  • Evidence-Informed: Adapted from Colorado’s Launch and Boost programs, with a UCSF-specific approach based on DOM needs.

Who Can Benefit from This Program?

The inaugural cohort includes new faculty hires starting in Summer and Fall 2025 across all three UCSF sites (UCSF Health, ZSFG, and VA). The program is being piloted in six early-adopter divisions, based on a department-wide needs assessment.

Participating Divisions in the Pilot:

  • Rheumatology

  • Hematology and Oncology

  • Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy, and Sleep Medicine

  • HIV, Infectious Diseases, and Global Medicine

  • Nephrology

  • Hospital Medicine
